Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade their weapons and equipment with new affixes, increasing its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.
Items with weak bases, like rings can be upgraded to more robust bases. Items with strong bases, such as Titans from eth, have no change in their stats.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into trinkets, armor, weapons and gathering tools, providing an attribute bonus or additional effect while the equipment is being used. They can be purchased from vendors, or found as loot gathered by enemies or gotten from missions and chests. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before they are upgraded.
To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, the player will need to select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview of the expected upgrade statistics and the necessary component or materials.
There are three kinds of upgrade components including universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, can be placed in any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions, which can only be placed in ascended gear and legendary equipment, are the same as gems, but offer higher bonuses and cannot be placed in any other kind of equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add the suffix at the end of the item's name. For example, adding a Glyph could transform a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor into a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools If a player replaces one glyph with another, the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component, it will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions that are able to be swapped.
Leveling
Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from the previous versions in a few important ways. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can only be upgraded a set number of times before being "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level however the materials required don't increase as much. This allows players to focus their efforts on a few important items to maximize their impact, rather than spreading out the cost of upgrades across several pieces.

When a piece of equipment is upgraded to its highest level it can be eligible to receive affixes that will boost its attributes. The number of affixes that are available is determined by the item's type. For instance an uncommon or unique weapon with a standard base will have only two affixes. A legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, depending on the type of item at its current level, and in which slot it is located in. Weapons usually require more Flightstones than other equipment.
If an item doesn't attain its maximum level, the NPC offers players the option to transfer it to another character and re-infuse the item with a different set or upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and costs the same amount of material, though it will have less chance of success.
Engineers will use a level in order to measure the height of the building to a known point, like a benchmark. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings with the level and backsight rod, then turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are constructed to the highest degree of precision and security.
Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is an essential aspect of the game, and it can improve the strength, damage or other attributes. You can do this through the menu for items or by pressing the Reroll button every time you upgrade an item. Rerolling items can be expensive and should be used sparingly.
The game allows players to recycle upgraded items, and use them to obtain tokens for rerolls. These tokens can be used to upgrade either the original item or a similar item. Recyclable items have a level gauge that shows how much of the upgrade gauge is filled. The rarity and cost of upgrading an item determines the level of filling.
In the past, some upgrade items had priority affixes which made them easier to roll for than other. This meant that you could be able to get the stats that were important most to your build often than other items. This included stats like armor's total armour, thorns and diminished duration due to control or the weapon's bonus attack speed and strike chance.
This has changed since the last patch. Priority affixes were removed and all upgrades have the identical chance of rolling each stat. This can be a good or a negative thing dependent on your needs and wants from your equipment.
Each upgraded item could be equipped with a special, fixed-value bonus that increases its power by a certain percentage. These bonuses are added to standard affixes. The more you improve an item, the greater chances of obtaining the bonus of your choice.
The game also comes with several sets, which give a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are installed on an item. This is an excellent method to add a lot of power to a specific character without spending a lot of money.
Many players are known to reroll their weapons and equipment particularly in the beginning stages. This is because rerolling can provide a much faster route to becoming a strong character, allowing them to reach high tiers and progress the game much more quickly.
Sets
